Fathia Balgahoom
Fathia Balgahoom - RU's Student and NJ Educator
Fathia Balgahoom is a master's student at Rowan University (RU) with several years of experience in education. She is working toward a master's degree in special education and inclusive practices and is on track to graduate magna cum laude. She is also working toward a certificate in teaching students with disabilities. Fathia Balgahoom most recently worked as a social studies and special education educator in northern New Jersey.
Fathia Balgahoom has taught culturally-relevant curricula to more than 100 students, incorporating creative activities and individualized materials into lesson plans. She also wrote and graded all exams and helped launch an academic mentorship program. She has additional experience as an educational assistant in a daycare setting.
Ms. Balgahoom completed her undergraduate degree at Montclair State University (MSU), where she was part of the first cohort of students for the Presidential Scholars Program. She was an admissions ambassador during her first two years on campus, and also served as treasurer, secretary, and president of the student-run Justice for Education. Her extracurricular interests include baking, crocheting, and exercising.
